Band Members

Dominic is the founding member of Expressway bringing together the best musicians and vocalists from the Cleveland area.  Beginning on accordion at the age of 10, he added singing and other keyboards to his talents in the early 60’s.  His influences include Motown, classic rock, disco R&B and doo-wop.  Over the years he has performed with Cleveland area bands including the Rhythm Kings, Rhythm in Motion, The Motion, Players Motown and Things.  Dominic played in Memory Lane for many years, sang at Swingo’s on the Lake.  He also is an accomplished DJ and karaoke host. He now shares front stage with Carmella in Expressway.

 

Carmella has been singing professionaly since the age of 20. She has studied voice at Cleveland Institute of Music and the Music Settlement. Carmella's clear, strong vocal ability, enables her to sing any style of music or artist. She has performed with many bands in the Cleveland area which include: Stone Carnation, Yesterday's Today, Hot Foot, Fancy That, Two's Company, Love Train, Crowd Pleaser's, Chance, and currently with Expressway. Carmella has had many wonderful opportunites throughout her career, the most impressive was the William Morris Agency coming to hear her for back up singer with Bette Midler in the early 70"s and opening for Donny Osmond at the Taste of Cleveland. Carmella has a passion for singing and entertaining, and loves audience participation!

Ricky has been playing professionally since age 14. During senior year in high school, received a call to go on the road with Cleveland's own Outsiders, and for 2 years toured and recorded 4 albums and 6 singles on Capitol records, receiving a gold 45 for one million copies sold of "Time Won't Let Me”.  Later in the 70's and 80's, he performed with Cleveland bands The Last Moving Picture Co, Snicker’s, and continued playing local dance clubs and area lounges since the 90's.  A veteran drummer of the local music scene with 50 years of experience, he now is a piece of the solid rhythm section backing up the Expressway band.

Jim has been a bass player and vocalist for the past 40 years and his repertoire includes classic rock, swing, funk, jazz, country and polkas.  Jim has always strived to be the best he could be, and those that he has worked with, moving down that wonderfully crazy road of music.  Some of the groups Jim has played with over the years are: Party of Five, Semantic, Eddie Rodick Orchestra, Karizma, Failsafe and The Sound of Six. Jim always says “Music is awesome”, so just keep smiling and dancing because I will see you all on that crazy road real soon!  

Tony has been playing guitar since the early 60's. In 1969 he joined the Cleveland based band Rastus releasing a double album in 1970 on the GRT/CBS record label achieving regional success. Later, Tony co-wrote three songs for a second album which was released on a New York label called Neighborhood Records.  In the mid 80's, Tony also co-wrote several songs with Abe LaMarca and was signed to the Scotti Brothers label. One of the songs was played in the comedy movie "He's My Girl" which is still heard from time to time on cable!  Throughout the years, Tony has played in about thirty bands and is now devoting his time to the band Expressway!

Fred is a classically trained pianist beginning his studies at age 9 and has given numerous solo recitals and has performed with the University of Akron Symphony.  He joined his first band over 40 years ago playing organ, electric piano and eventually synthesizer.  Notable local bands over this time include Madhouse during the 70's and 80's, Accent - a premier club dance band in the 90's, Rhythm Method - Docs Who Rock (Akron, Ohio United Way) champion of 2009, Sight and Sound - Motown Sounds and just recently Expressway.  He has collaborated with on many musical projects since 1973 and is a ten year veteran of with the pit orchestra of Revere Players.  He is a member of AFM Local 24.
